As someone who has reviewed and used quite a number of smartphones over the years, I have learned that a phone doesn’t always have to be the most expensive or the most powerful to impress me. Sometimes, what really matters is how well it fits into your everyday life. That is exactly what I find interesting about the new REDMI Note 17 5G. From its massive battery and large AMOLED display to its durable build, capable performance and stylish design, this is a phone that seems to focus on the things that most of us actually need when using a smartphone every day.

The first thing that caught my attention is the battery. The REDMI Note 17 5G comes with a huge 7,700mAh battery, and for someone like me who is constantly using a phone for work, social media, taking photos and videos, checking messages, browsing, attending events and traveling, having this much battery capacity is a big advantage. REDMI says the phone can deliver up to 2.54 days of typical use on a single charge, with up to 26 hours of video playback, 157 hours of music playback and 12 hours of video recording. Of course, actual battery life will always depend on how you use the phone, but the numbers give you an idea of how much endurance REDMI is targeting with this device. It also supports 45W Turbo Charging, so when you do need to recharge, you don’t have to stay connected to the charger for too long. I also like the addition of 22.5W reverse charging, which means the REDMI Note 17 5G can share some of its battery with compatible devices. For me, that’s a very practical feature, especially when traveling.

Another thing I really like is the display. The REDMI Note 17 5G has a large 6.99-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2396 x 1080 and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. I personally enjoy using a large screen because I spend a lot of time browsing, watching videos, checking social media and editing content. The 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and animations feel smoother, while the AMOLED panel gives videos and photos a more vibrant look. Brightness can reach up to 1,800 nits peak, with 1,200 nits HBM, which is especially useful when you’re using the phone outdoors. What I also appreciate is that REDMI didn’t forget about eye comfort. The display comes with TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light Hardware Solution and Circadian Friendly certifications, which is a nice addition for people who spend hours looking at their phones.

When it comes to durability, this is another area where I think the REDMI Note 17 5G deserves attention. The phone is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and has an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance. For me, durability is important because my phone goes with me almost everywhere. Whether I’m attending events, traveling, working outdoors or simply using it during the day, I don’t want to constantly worry about every little splash or dusty environment. REDMI has also included Wet Touch Technology 2.0, which is designed to keep the touchscreen responsive even when your fingers or the display are wet or oily. It’s not necessarily the first feature people look for when buying a phone, but it’s the kind of practical feature you appreciate when you actually need it.

The REDMI Note 17 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 Mobile Platform, built on a 4nm process, with an octa-core CPU reaching up to 2.3GHz and an Adreno GPU. I’m not going to describe this as a gaming flagship because that’s not really what this phone is trying to be. Instead, I see it as a dependable everyday smartphone. For browsing, messaging, social media, streaming, photography and regular applications, the hardware is designed to provide the performance most everyday users need. Storage and memory options include 6GB + 128GB, 6GB + 256GB and 8GB + 256GB, using LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. Personally, I would go for the 8GB + 256GB configuration because I tend to keep a lot of photos, videos and applications on my phone.

For photography, the REDMI Note 17 5G comes with a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and 5P lens, together with a 16MP front camera. As a tech reviewer and someone who attends a lot of events, I always find myself taking photos of products, food, people and interesting moments, so having a capable main camera is important to me. The 50MP camera is designed for everyday photography, while REDMI also adds several AI-powered tools through its AI Creativity Assistant. Features such as AI Erase Pro, AI Sky and AI Image Expansion can make quick photo editing much easier. Instead of opening another application every time I want to remove something from a photo or make a simple adjustment, having these tools built into the phone can save time. Another feature that caught my attention is dual video recording, which allows you to capture the front and rear perspectives simultaneously. I can definitely see content creators and vloggers having fun with this feature, especially when covering events or recording reactions.

The phone also runs on Xiaomi HyperOS, giving the REDMI Note 17 5G its overall software experience. It comes with Google features such as Google Gemini and Circle to Search with Google, which I find useful because I’m always looking for ways to make everyday tasks faster. Circle to Search, in particular, is one of those features that can become part of your normal phone routine because you can search for something you’re already looking at on your screen without having to leave what you’re doing. The phone also comes with an in-screen fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock for convenient security. For entertainment, REDMI has added a 200% volume boost and Hi-Res Audio support, which is another nice touch for anyone who regularly watches videos or listens to music using their smartphone.

Now let’s talk about the design, because I have to admit that I really like the Celestial Purple version. The color gives the REDMI Note 17 5G a fresh personality, and the combination of matte and glossy textures, metallic accents and transparent details makes it look more interesting than the usual plain smartphone finishes. It is also available in Sky Teal and Black for those who prefer more subtle colors, but if I had to choose one for myself, I would definitely go with Celestial Purple. The redesigned camera module also gives the back a cleaner look, while the flat display and gently rounded corners make the phone comfortable to hold. Despite having a huge 7,700mAh battery and a large display, the phone measures around 8.45mm thick and weighs approximately 225 grams.

After looking at the REDMI Note 17 5G as a whole, what I like most about this phone is that it doesn’t seem to be focused on just one impressive specification. Instead, REDMI has put together a combination of features that make sense for everyday users. You get a 7,700mAh battery, 45W Turbo Charging, a large 6.99-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 performance, a 50MP camera, useful AI features, Xiaomi HyperOS and IP65 protection. Put all of these together and you have a phone that is designed to keep up with a busy lifestyle.

For me, that’s what makes the REDMI Note 17 5G interesting. After using and reviewing so many smartphones, I’ve come to appreciate reliability just as much as raw specifications. I want a phone that I can bring to work, events, travel and everyday activities without constantly worrying about battery life, accidental splashes or running out of storage. I want a screen that looks good, a camera that I can rely on for quick photos, and performance that keeps up with the things I normally do.

The REDMI Note 17 5G seems to understand that. It’s not simply about having a big number on the specification sheet. It’s about having a smartphone that gives you the confidence to use it throughout the day. More battery, more screen, more durability and more freedom to simply enjoy using your phone.

And with that beautiful Celestial Purple finish, I have to say, this is one REDMI Note that definitely caught my attention.
