Rebecca Chuaunsu from the Philippines has bagged the Best Actress award for “Her Locket” at the Wu Wei Taipei International Film Festival 2024 on Sunday night, September 1, held at Westar Theater in Ximeding, Taipei, Taiwan.
“To God be the Glory!” Rebecca posted on her social media account.
After her opening greetings in Chinese, here was the acceptance speech of Rebecca:
“Magandang gabi sa inyong lahat. I’m an actress and producer from the Philippines. First, thank you, Direk Njel, Ms Jam, the jurors of the Wu Wei Taipei International Films Festival.
“You know, when I was a child and a teenager, I used to hold a Taiwan passport. Yes! Until the day before I got married, I waited for 11 years… for then President Ferdinand Marcos to declare us as naturalized Filipinos.
“So, tonight, it’s very, very humbling, an honor, and a privilege to accept this award in my home country. Taipei, Taiwan, and also in front of my kababayan.
“’Her Locket,’ an auto-biographical movie, is about family, conflicts. Inheritance issues, and all of these. It will be featured at Sinag Maynila on September 4 to 10. So, please invite your friends, your kababayans, your relatives, even your enemies (in the Philippines).
“It will be held in Gateway, Robinsons, SM Cinemas, and Market Market. You will see me there, I will give you popcorn and softdrinks,” she laughs.
This Taiwan victory is Rebecca’s second win, after winning her first Best Actress plum (for effectively portraying the lead character of Jewel Ouyang) at the 2023 Festival International du Film Transsaharien de Zagora in Morocco.
HER LOCKET has also participated at Marche Du Film – Festival De Cannes (2023) in France; London East Asia International Film Festival (2023) in UK; 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival (2024) in Bangladesh.
“This prestigious recognition truly highlights her exceptional talent and dedication to her craft.
Rebecca’s powerful portrayal and her commitment to storytelling have resonated with audiences and judges alike, and we couldn’t be prouder of her achievement.
“Join us in celebrating this fantastic milestone and honoring Rebecca’s hard work and passion.
“Thank you all for your unwavering support, and let’s continue to cheer on Rebecca as she shines brightly on the international stage!” posted on Rebecca Chuaunsu Film Production Facebook Page.
The film’s logline reads: With the aid of a locket necklace, a Chinese woman suffering from dementia is able to gradually recall memories from her past.
Also in the main cast are Elora Españo, Boo Gabunada, Sophie Ng, Benedict Cua, Francis Mata, among others. It’s directed by J.E. Tiglao who won Best Director at the Cinema One Originals 2019 from his debut film “Metamorphosis,” who also co-wrote the screenplay with Maze Miranda.
Congratulations, Mr. Rebecca for your Taiwan best actress award!
