In time for the Philippine Film Industry Month this September, Gateway Gallery’s KulturaSerye will bring to light discussions on how films become powerful agents of history education.

Multi-awarded film director Jerrold Tarog will share and discuss the process of conceptualizing and shooting Heneral Luna and Goyo, two historical films that captured the hearts and imagination of Filipinos.

In light of recent issues in history films being crafted as tools for distortion and propaganda, the KulturaSerye talk becomes even more timely and relevant. In the talk Thoughts on Making Historical Films, Tarog will share his thoughts on the balancing act of historical accuracy, creative license, and personal biases. John Carlo Santos, history instructor at UP Los Banos, moderates the talk.

Jerrold Tarog is also a film editor, composer, and writer. He directed the megahit historical epic Heneral Luna in 2015 and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral in 2018.

KulturaSerye is a free webinar on timely cultural, art, and heritage issues, featuring experts in their field. E-certificates will be given to those who will join KulturaSerye and answer the online feedback form after the talk. It is supported by the J. Amado Araneta Foundation, and the official media partner The Philippine Online Student Tambayan (The POST).
